for some of us we've seen this mag first hand for others maybe you heard about it. if not well here you go its what was give to the troops when first issued m16's back before most around here were even born or even a gleam in your daddy's eye

I was in the lottery for call up in 1971 That's one number I'll never forget 276.

same here i was bore in 73 im to young to remember this mag but it was fun

my dad joined the army in 65 he said the m14 was far better weapon said the early m16 was like carring a toy and some other words I can't put here as well.

We much prefer the M-4 today, but when you're trying to plink douchebags out at 500+ yards, the long-barrel (as we call the M-16) is amazingly accurate. With an ACOG scope you can snipe pretty well. But...you feel like a kid playing Army when you carry it around...

Is there anything new in the works? seem like that the m16 family has been in service longer than any other rifle that we have had.

The US Gov has been testing several new concept rifles as a replacement. As I understand it, the newer M16s and M4 are just plain ole hard to beat. That is why they are still around. Here is a H&K prototype replacement that wa eventually canceled:
